Degree Options

Masters Plan I (Thesis) 

requires a student to complete 30 units of coursework and a thesis.

Masters Plan II (Comprehensive Examination) 

requires a student to complete 36 units of coursework and a comprehensive final examination on three topics. 

PhD Plan (UC Davis)

requires a student to complete a minimum of 32 units of coursework, a qualifying examination on five topics, a dissertation, and an exit seminar.  Students work with a faculty member from UC Davis and enroll at UC Davis for the entirety of the degree.

PhD (Joint Program with San Diego State University)

requires a student to complete a minimum of 32 units of coursework, a qualifying examination on five topics, a dissertation, and an exit seminar.  Students primarily work with a faculty member from San Diego State University and enroll at UC Davis only for the second year of the program.
